Our handblown glass wine rinsers were inspired by Julia's collection of the 19th-century originals. We use them as elegant receptacles for pretty much everything from sauces and dips to grocery store orchids, but they were once put into service as literal rinsers when wines were changed between courses or to rid the bottoms of sediment. The lips on each side supported the stems of the glasses. These ingenious vessels graced many an elegant table including that of Thomas Jefferson. These days they are more apt to grace tables as vases holding low arrangements of loose flowers, as their height ensures that dinner party conversation is not hindered.
